Task # 1: Submit Proposal
Trix Rosen, teaming closely with Gregory Dietrich, the Architectural
Historian and Manager of the NY Office of the Cultural Resource
Consulting Group (CRCG), submitted a proposal to the Brooklyn
Navy Yard Development Corporation to complete HABS Level
II Documentation on Admirals’ Row located at the Brooklyn
Navy Yard in New York City. This proposal responded to the
scope of services outlined in the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s RFP
dated February 2005 and included provisions for a HABS Level
II history and description of the row, a site visit culminating
in preparation of a photographic shot list, and HABS Level
II photo documentation of the buildings and relevant drawings
showing existing conditions.
Task # 2: Site Visit and Preparation
of Shot List
Gregory Dietrich and Trix Rosen completed a physical inspection
of the site, and identified and suggested 20-40 specific
locations from which to best photograph the historic structures.
The shot list was assembled so that each shot clearly depicted
the appearance of the property and areas of significance
of the houses. The digital images from this initial visit
helped define the views of each of the principal facades
as well as interior shots and details as required for the
preparation of the shot list. These images were also used
as reference in the preparation of the map of the sites showing
the proposed locations.
Task # 3: Photo Documentation
After approval of thirty five (35) images from the shot list
by the BNYDC, Trix Rosen Photography completed the large-format,
black-and-white photographs of the subject property in conformance
with HABS Level II standards. The negatives were 4" x
5" and the archival prints were 8" x 10." Each
view was perspective-corrected and clearly labeled. We provided
two (2) sets of negatives and four (4) sets of prints to
BNYDC upon completion. In addition, one (1) CD of the images
in high-resolution digital format was provided to BNYDC.
Task # 4: Document Reproduction
Upon BNYDC’s approval, Trix Rosen Photography had five (5)
drawings of the subject property photographed in black-and-white
in accordance with HABS Level II standards. The negatives
were 8" x 10" and the prints were 8" x 10." Two
(2) sets of negatives and four (4) sets of prints were provided
to BNYDC upon completion. |

Hudson River Park, Phase 1-Segment 4;
Christopher Street to 14th Street
Bulkhead Repair and Platform Replacement
Photographed more than (400) Medium-Format color and black
and white images prior to construction, during construction,
and post construction of the Hudson River Park. We worked
closely with the contractors, engineers and architects to
identify and categorize all the elements needed for their
documentation.
Trix Rosen Photography shot construction areas
prior to the start of work on the Hudson River Park to show
existing conditions before the start of any demolition and
removals or other on-site construction operations. We were
given three days’ notice where feasible, and in emergency situations
were available within 24 hours of request.
Included were each individual area of work, adjacent
bulkheads, neighboring piers and structures, which might later
be misconstrued as damage related to demolition/removal operations
or other activities of the contractor, and items indicated
for salvage. The photographs were needed to show and accurately
record as a future reference existing conditions at the property
before starting the Work. Trix Rosen Photography did thirty
to fifty (30-50) periodic construction photographs monthly
or as the demolition progressed, and selected vantage points
to best show the status of construction and the progress since
the last photographs were taken. We also worked with the construction
manager who helped direct vantage points or detail conditions
to be shown. Fifteen (15) black and white and fifteen (15)
color photographs after the date of the substantial completion
were submitted as project record documents.
We photographed the sites both from land and water,
working with tide charts as necessary, and submitted to Li-Saltzman
Architects, P.C. more than four hundred (400) medium-format
color and black and white negatives and accompanying contact
prints. Additional 35mm hi-resolution digital images were taken
during the work to document historic features. During the project
and upon completion, Trix Rosen Photography worked closely
with the architects at Li- Saltzman to identify and categorize
all the elements needed for their documentation.
